[3.5] A few items for Dragons

Postby Gralamin » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:52 am

Taking a small break from Modrons to post these. This is a cross post with GitP.
This article has a related thread on the Giant in the Playground forums that may contain more up-to-date information than what is provided here.

Treasure Pile
Price: +4,000 gp
Property: Armor or Shield
Caster Level: 10th
Aura: Strong (DC 22) transmutation
Activation: Swift (mental) for shields; Move (mental) for Armor

The pile of treasure the dragon is sleeping on suddenly forms into armor protecting the dragon as it wakes.

A Treasure Pile Shield or Armor has the ability to transform into a pile of gold, silver, and copper coins equal to it's worth upon activation (The exact amount of each is chosen on item creation, and may be edited if another enchantment is placed on the item). It may stay in this form indefinitely, but no coin may be removed from the pile - any coin moved more then 10 ft away teleports back to it's original place. If the item is dispelled while in this form, or subjected to an anti-magic field, it immediately transforms back into it's base form. If a creature is on the pile of coins when this happens (such as a dragon sleeping on it), that creature is automatically equipped with the item. If multiple creatures are on it, it goes to the creature that activated it, or a random creature if none of the creatures activated it.

A second activation will transform the item back into the base form and equip it, following the same rules as if it was dispelled.

As an additional benefit, if a Treasure Pile armor or shield is ever sundered or destroyed, and this ability is not suppressed, the armor or shield shatters into the same pile of coins as if it was activated, although these coins can not turn back into the item: they are completely mundane coins. This benefit does not work against a Disjunction.

Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Polymorph any Object
Cost To Create 2,000 gp, 160 XP, 4 days.

Dragonfitted Template
The Dragonfitted template can be added to any suit of armor, shield, or weapon crafted to fit a Dragon, or a Dragon's servant.

Requirements
The creator of a Dragonfitted item must be of the Dragon type, or have the Dragonblooded subtype. A Dragonfitted item must be made inside the lair of an alive dragon.

Dragonfitted Armor and Shields
The Dragonfitted template can be added to any Armor or Shield, so long as it is made of some form of metal (including Mithril or Adamantine).
Cost: The Dragonfitted template adds 2000 gp to the other costs associated with creating a given suit of armor or shield.
Weight: A Dragonfitted shield or suit of armor weighs 20% more then it's normal counterpart.
Arcane Spell Failure: The arcane spell failure chance of Dragonfitted armor and shields is reduced by 15% (minimum 0%).
Affinites: Treasure Pile, Fortification (light, moderate, and heavy), animated
Armor Check Penalty: The armor check penalty of Dragonfitted armor and shields is reduced by 1 (minimum -1).
Special: Dragonfitted Armor and Shields may only be worn by Dragons or Dragonblooded creatures. True Dragons may use Dragonfitted Armor and Shields as though they were proficient with them.

More fun with Dragon, price is cheap, but the effect is not really strong, but its a really good reason why Dragon are sleeping on their gold... You could also add the link to the giantitp cross-post so we can read update and/or comments from others.

It is linked in the little GITP box I have. Fax / DragoonWrath should probably change the CSS for that box to make it a bit more obvious.

I saw it right away... What more do you want? I have rather limited space in which to work for that box.

I'd probably just underline it so it looks a bit more like a link.

Ah, you mean the actual link in the box. That's a pretty solid idea.

Does the ACP -1 thing stack with Masterwork?
Can Dragon-craft be stacked with Mithral?
Never heard of Affinities, what book are they from?
